I regret not playing more Rugby at school but glad I now found a group to play with.

At school, they taught us to love rugby. I started playing Rugby around age 7 when I joined Caldicott prep school. I later attended Royal Grammar School High Wycombe aged 13 but I never took rugby that seriously as a kid however and didn’t make the most of it. It was a regret that I had since I never knew how hard it would be find other people that enjoy the sport. For a long time, I ended up playing football instead since it was always easier to round up a group of friends to play.

I REGRETTED NOT TRYING HARDER FOR THE SCHOOL TEAM

It was always a regret of mine that I didn’t try harder for the school rugby team. I think I would have enjoyed traveling with a team around England playing other school teams.

RUGBY HAS A GOOD SENSE OF CAMARADERIE SEEN LESS IN OTHER SPORTS

I think more kids should definitely play rugby；the sport is very different to say football or cricket. Rugby has a sense of camaraderie that you feel you’re all in it together. The professionalism seems to be much higher than that of other sports like football where we now see a pandemic of diving across all leagues and berating of the referee. As they say, Rugby is a gentlemen’s game.

Fast forward 17 years now in Shanghai where I now practice dentistry. I’m fortunate to meet a lovely patient who introduced me to a lovely group of people who meet up every Saturday and Tuesday to play Rugby. It is touch rugby but still a fantastic way to keep fit and be part of a team. It’s great to make new friends and develop yourself personally. The camaraderie of the sport is great!
